Surf season is here — what we see most often

19 mei 2026

Surf season is in full swing on the east coast. We’re seeing the usual mix in the clinic: reef cuts, jellyfish stings, sunburn, dehydration, and the occasional scooter accident.

Three things that prevent the majority of what we treat:

  • Reef boots. Unfashionable, completely effective at preventing foot cuts.
  • Sunscreen, properly applied. SPF 30 minimum, reapply every two hours and after every session. The reflected light off the water doubles your dose.
  • Water and oral rehydration salts. A full bottle before paddling out, and ORS waiting for when you come in. Long sessions in tropical heat dehydrate you faster than you realise.

If you do get hurt — walk in. We’re open every hour, including at 3am when reef cuts seem to feel worst.

Welcome back to anyone returning for another season, and welcome to Arugam Bay if it’s your first time.
